Pregnancy massage, also known as pre-natal massage, promotes relaxation, soothes nerves, and relieves strained back and leg muscles in expectant mothers. Pregnancy massage is especially beneficial in the second and third trimesters, when the extra weight in your belly puts a strain on your back.
A pregnancy massage differs from traditional massage.
During the first trimester positioning on the table is the same as during a typical massage (lying on your stomach/lying on your back) there will be cushions for support and added comfort.
In the second and third trimesters the positioning changes to side lying with cushions under your head and between your knees for added comfort and support.
A pregnancy massage is very soothing and relaxing in style. Deep tissue work, abdominal kneading and certain acupressure points are avoided.
